'IL Y A LA COUPE' Features a Bold Salon Lighting Sculpture

Installing the right salon lighting is an important part of creating the perfect relaxing atmosphere. IL Y A LA COUPE is a hair salon in La Prairie, Quebec, that recently installed a dynamic fixture that could only be created with 3D printing. The lighting fixture takes the form of a cross between a pillar and a ceiling lamp, which emits soft light throughout the space.
For the development of the interior plastic piece, called 'Dionysus,' IL Y A LA COUPE consulted Lezar3D to create a custom solution to fit existing metal frames in the salon. In total, 450 individual pyramids were printed in PLA plastic for the project, resulting in a finished design that resembles an intricate piece of origami art.
Although 3D printing is often used for rapid prototyping, particularly when it comes to small objects, it is also being used for large-scale projects that involve custom retail solutions.
