The Row on 25th housing project shows that sustainable structures can also be stylish structures. Row on 25th is a series of all-white townhomes reminiscent of the green houses used in the board game Monopoly located in the hip downtown area of Houston Heights, Texas. Considering how hot and humid this city can get, the challenge of providing cool homes without consuming tons of energy was taken up by architects Matthew and Tina Ford of Shade House Development.
"A study in careful compromises," as cleverly observed by Fast Co. Design, Row on 25th uses materials such as radiant barrier house wrap not to mention sound judgement about where to place certain necessities. For instance, the air-conditioning ducts were installed in the basement, rather than the attic where the heat rises to.
