S2A Modular, a California-based modular building company, will appeal to the new-age consumer looking for cost-effective yet sustainable homes. The modular homes are designed to be net positive and use "graphene solar panels by FreeVolt, two Tesla Powerwalls, low-voltage lighting, high-efficiency appliances, and proprietary engineering," thus having a smaller footprint compared to traditional homes.
“We wanted a healthier, holistic way to build the homes,” John Rowland, the co-founder and president of S2A Modular, said. “The interior of the homes is completely covered with organic, hemp-based material instead of gypsum. The stucco and finishes are made with organic material, which is mold and termite resistant, fire proof. It also lowers the transmission of CO2.”
Currently, S2A Modular is focused on creating a community of over 50 homes dubbed the Bahia Village. The 1,000-square-foot homes have two bedrooms, two baths, and are "completely free of energy and gas bills."
