Giant blue snails have invaded the Duomo in Milan, Italy, thanks to the art installation titled REgeneration by Cracking Art Group. 50 plastic snails were placed on the roof of the fourth largest cathedral in the world in an artistic and admirable effort to draw attention to and raise funds for much-needed repairs. Although the collective is known for its snail art, the use of such a creature has particular meaning here. They can represent the slow decay the structure is currently suffering.
REgeneration by Cracking Art Group, which consists of six artists from Italy, Belgium and France, is environmentally conscious. Working primarily with recycled plastic, the snails are working double time by highlighting the Duomo's need while relieving the world of toxic materials that can devastate the environment.
