Playing off of the popularity of celebrities reading tweets, this Mucinex commercial does the same with its sticky green mascot. In each of the 'Mr. Mucus Reads Sick Tweets' ads, the character responds to one tweet that someone has sent out on social media. In this video, the particular Twitter message chosen has Mr. Mucus perplexed when it's revealed that someone's grandmother confused him with a pear.
Although this character is definitely a recognizable one, it's not exactly easy to be fond of him, as proven by some of the tweets he reads in this video series. But by setting him up as a sympathetic character that's attacked the same way celebrities are on social media sites like Twitter, this is a comical way to poke fun at Mr. Mucus.
