Porsche and Holoride are looking to the future of in-car entertainment systems with a partnership that will introduce vehicle-synced virtual reality experiences and VR headsets for passengers—meaning that when as a car turns a corner, the passenger experiencing VR will also see and feel a change in direction. When wearing a headset, a passenger will be able to see 2D and 3D content in an immersive format, ranging from documentaries and underwater adventures to futuristic city visualizations. Discovery is also getting involved and will provide 2D content for the in-car VR experiences.
The partners are exploring the possibilities of not just virtual reality entertainment but also edutainment, productivity and relaxation.
Holoride is aiming to bring this new form of entertainment via commercially available VR headsets to market by 2021.
