The 2019 Pokémon World Championship Will Feature a New Category
Kalin Ned — July 31, 2019 — Pop Culture
In August of 2019, the annual Pokémon World Championship will take place in Washington, DC. However, for the first time in the event's history, the Pokémon GO Player versus Player tournament will take place officially.
Pokémon World Championship has pre-selected competitors for this category, yet, the activation also allows for crowd participation. One spot has been left up-for-grabs and fans will have the chance to compete on-site for it. This is only exclusive to applicants in the United States and the organizers have made it quite easy for attendees to enter — they simply have to put their name on a sign-up sheet through the official Pokémon website.
The Pokémon World Championship builds a community around the cult-favorite anime and the chance of "competing against big names [...] such as Junichi Masuda and Shigeki Morimoto" will be considered an honor.
