Dubbed the Pokémon Crafts exhibition, 20 Japanese artists will showcase Pokémon characters in artwork with traditional Japanese craftsmanship at the National Crafts Museum in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. Created by Satoshi Tajiri, Pokémon has been a popular Japanese media franchise for the past 27 years and has expanded from games to film franchises.
The exhibition will contain 70 Pokémon characters and features popular Pokémon characters such as Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charizard, and more will be displayed in lifelike artworks in the forms of ceramic vases, golden figurines, handcrafted ornaments, and others. The artwork fuses the Pokémon character with traditional Japanese objects. A standout item is the Charizard/Shigaraki Pot made by Yoshiko Masumoto, which contains the Pokémon character Charizard merged with the shigaraki pot, only showing its head, claws, legs, tail, and wings. The exhibition is open until June 11.
