While the sales of plant-based meat are spiking in North America, a Thailand-based startup called Let's Plant Meat is introducing its own plant-based burger patty to supermarkets. The animal-free patty was created in response to the fact that Chiang Mai is recognized as having some of the poorest air quality in the world during the annual crop burning season—which sees farmers burning crop residue to prepare for the next planting. As many farmers grow corn to feed livestock, Let's Plant Meat sees that "as long as we continue to consume meat, the air we breathe will continue to be polluted."
As plant-based burgers that are imported to Thailand are costly, Let's Plant Meat created its own alternative to appeal to Thai consumers in terms of both taste and price.
