Refrigerated alternative protein brand Lightlife Foods launched a pea protein-based product line that includes a pea protein burger that will be sold in the meat aisle. Across the new plant-based line, the products avoid the use of GMO ingredients, gluten, soy and artificial flavors.
The Lightlife Burger is packed with 20 grams of pea protein, offering no cholesterol and significantly less saturated fat than a regular quarter-pound patty made with beef. Some of the other ingredients that go into the making of the plant-based burger patty include virgin coconut oil and beet powder, which helps to create the product's "juicy and meaty" texture that lends itself well to being grilled over an open flame.
Alongside the Lightlife Burger, the brand also introduced two types of sausages and plant-based grounds.
