Visitors to Paris Hilton’s website, ParisHilton.com, got an unsavory surprise last week: a virus. ScanSafe security researchers detected the malware last Monday, and it’s unknown how many site visitors were impacted.
Upon visiting ParisHilton.com, users were prompted to update their system to continue navigating the site, according to ScanSafe: “When the bogus pop-up box appears, users have the option to click ‘Cancel’ or ‘OK.’ Regardless of which option they choose, destructive malware will be downloaded to the user’s computer.”
It’s thought that the virus on Paris Hilton’s website has affected thousands of fans and up to 15,000 other websites, according to the Telegraph. What’s more, Information Week reports that only 7 out of 38 antivirus products were able to pick up the malware.
