Instagram added coronavirus tips to the top of the feed that users screen. This means that millions of Instagram users will be able to receive information on how to slow down the spread of the coronavirus through their home screen on the app. Additionally, in some areas, the social media platform will provide links to the World Health Organization or local health officials. Instagram will make these coronavirus tips available to those in some of the most affected areas first.
The information will all follow similar guidelines and direct users toward informational resources, with text like this, "Help Prevent the Spread of Coronavirus: See the latest information from the World Health Organization so you can help prevent the spread of COVID-19. — Go to who.int.."
The platform also banned augmented reality effects related to the virus, in order to ensure people are taking it seriously.
