In the fight against plastic waste, companies are prototyping paper bottle packaging that's lightweight and waste-reducing and Coca-Cola is introducing a paper bottle design of its own. As part of a plan to reduce its carbon footprint, Coca-Cola is collaborating with Paboco to introduce a concept with a paper shell, a plastic liner and a closure. Ultimately, the collaborators are working towards creating an eco-friendly packaging solution that can be "recycled like any paper."
While the inclusion of a plastic liner is still necessary at this stage to keep the paper protected from the liquid contents of the bottle, the partners are exploring ways for this component to be replaced with an even more eco-friendly material to further reduce plastic waste.
