Exploring how a flat, 2D substance can take up space in the 3D world, artist Midori Harima creates incredibly realistic sculptures with her paper art designs.
Finding inspiration within nature and photography, the artist creates lifelike portraits of animals and nude people cast in shades of gray as though shot with black and white photography. Put all of her installations together and they create a dreamy forest that has no color or sound, simply shadows and depth.
Looking like heavy plaster statues that weigh a ton, these paper sculptures are deceivingly light, with gazelles hanging from the ceiling as they leap through the air. Thus, her work mimics the fragility of animals and the human condition.
Midori Harima uses paper art designs as a way to showcase the delicate existence of nature.
