Completed in 2017, the Otto M. Budig Theater is an intimate modern theater that comes packed with technological innovations to showcase the best performances possible. Designed by Cincinnati-based architecture/interior design firm GBBN incorporated, the modern theater drew inspiration from the iconic playwright William Shakespeare. Some of the references to the bard's work include a 38-step stairway and liberal use of reclaimed wood that harkens back to the Globe Theater. The references to Shakespeare were not entirley random as the Otto M. Budig Theater is the home of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Co.
While the theater harkens back and honors classic designs, the Otto M. Budig Theater also incorporates some innovative features. Incorporated into the facility is a state-of-the-art "flexible thrust" stage. The use of this style of stage allows audiences a closer view of the action and makes it easier for actors and audiences to energize each other.
