Amy Duong — April 12, 2023 — Art & Design
Chinese design studio Open Architecture showcases visuals for its new Yichang Grand Theater which is located in China and has an amorphous structure meant to evoke flowing water. The theater measures an impressive 70,000 square-meter and is in the Hubei Province's Pinghu Peninsula. The proposal of the design is made up of 1,600 seats in the grand theatre, 1,200 seats in the concert hall, 400 seats in the black box, and two outdoor theaters.
Other features of the space include educational facilities, event spaces, exhibition spaces, coffee shops, restaurants, observation decks, and observation rooms. Founding partner Li Hu notes that "The design of the grand theatre draws inspiration from the spirit of water that defines the city of Yichang. Water may seem soft yet it can have infinite strength."
