Oinkster Burger Nickels Make for Forest-Approved Marketing
Amelia Roblin — August 4, 2011 — Eco
It's refreshing to see how a tactile campaign can get by with wasting as few resources as these Oinkster Burger Nickels do, though few businesses could boast such brilliance. The restaurant even released a run of coupons to attract new customers, but interestingly, they did not opt for paper.
Instead, these wood chip vouchers are made from timber scraps of unused futon bed frames. The 2ndwnd Interdisciplinary Design Studio used laser-cutting technology to excise these lumber coins from the thin strips, etching the image of a hamburger, barbecue flippers and the details of the promotion onto the surface of each. The Dutch Press had a hand in developing the aesthetic of these Oinkster Burger Nickels, but the overall teamwork that created this admirable system of reusable eco coupons is something to be commended.
