Cameron Anderson Architects have completed a unique off-grid cabin that sits on farmland in New South Wales, Australia. Gawthorne's Hut is on a family-owned lavender and beef-producing farm. The home was built so that the farm would remain profitable and in the family for future generations.
Gawthorne's Hut is a 400 square foot rental house. Its aesthetic is influenced by the surrounding hay sheds and was designed to blend into the landscape. The unit is built in the shape of a triangle, with an inclined roof that is completed with solar panels. The cabin is oriented to the north to ensure the best solar energy is produced and stored.
The design firm used existing and surrounding materials found on the farm to build the home. Gawthorne's Hut is completed with a water tank, battery storage, and advanced solar panels - making this the ideal off-the-grid vacation experience.
