Lake Flato Architects Designs the North Fork Residence
Amy Duong — April 25, 2024 — Art & Design
American design firm Lake Flato Architects completes a family vacation home dubbed the North Fork. It is located in Long Island and the house is made up of three structures with a barn-like aesthetic. Each one is made with cedar and uses prefabricated timber materials. It is nestled in the quiet town of Peconic and the namesake nods to its location on the city's North Fork. The area is known for its cozy family farms and vineyards with a close connection to the sea.
Texas-based Lake Flato Architects speaks about the design project, stating "The North Fork is a place of simple barns, farms and quaint harbors, and it is from there that we drew our inspiration for the buildings of the house. The three buildings create a loosely defined central farm courtyard out of the soft, tree-covered sand dune." It rests on top of a sand dune and the home is comprised of three main structures: the main dwelling, the utility or studio space, and a guest home.
