Caribou Coffee is currently testing nitro coffee in a number of its stores. Nitro coffee, which is short for nitrogen-infused coffee, is a carbonated cold brew popularized by a number of specialty coffee shops. Now Caribou Coffee is testing out the specialty brew on a larger scale.
Unlike traditional cold brew coffee, nitro coffee is infused with nitrogen as it is poured. This gives the drink a bubbly consistency and a frothy head that is similar to that of a beer. The bubbles are deigned to give the coffee a sweet and creamy texture that makes it pleasant to drink.
Caribou Coffee is currently testing the drink at two of its Minnesota locations, with plans to add the drink to 25 more locations by February of 2016.
