'Mother of Pearl' is the name that Dutch startup Plasticiet gave to its latest collection for furniture. The pieces--a stool, a chair, and shelving--present an interesting technique of treating and interacting with recycled plastic. Plasticiet worked with the material using a technique that was "similar to that used for making the chewy sweet taffy from hot sugar."
The recycled plastic is "stretched and folded numerous times," while "stretched air bubbles captured within the translucent plastic reflect light," contributing with yet another effect.
The 'Mother of Pearl' collection was debuted at the Collectible Design Fair in Brussels, which was held at the beginning of March. Without a doubt, the "monolithic slabs of pearlescent polycarbonate" were able to draw the attention of consumers.
