Naturehumaine builds a sculptural Montreal home in the Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie neighborhood. The structure was previously a duplex and now, it boasts an eye-catching facade with a curved volume. The architecture firm overhauled the entire exterior and interior of the building in order to convert it into a single-family residence.
For this design-forward contemporary project, Naturehumaine used "the fantastical paintings" of Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher as an inspirational reference point for this Montreal home. The striking indoor staircase is considered the centerpiece of the design. Made out of steel, the staircase is angular and this is precisely where MC Escher's influence kicks in—the Dutch artist is well-known for "his depictions of architecturally impossible spaces." A strategically placed skylight illuminates the space.
