Award-winning Portland-based brewery Migration Brewing has released 'Maple Coronet,' a delectable and complex barrel-aged maple barleywine that forms one of the more recent limited-edition offerings to emerge from the brewery's 'Migrator' barrel-aged series.
This maple barleywine makes use of delicious, organic maple syrup sourced from Glenna Farms in Amery, Wisconson. The beer itself is aged for six months in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels, giving it its complex character and irresistible flavor. Coming in at 11 percent ABV (alcohol by volume), this barrel-aged maple barleywine makes use of rich English Maris Otter malts and a trio of caramel malt varieties. Maple syrup was added to the mix both during the run-off stage as well as the fermentation phase.
The end result is a barleywine that offers the distinct taste of maple without being unduly overpowering.
