Kostas Seremetis is a multi-talented artist based in New York City whose drawings, paintings and sculptures of old school pop culture tropes have garnered him a sizable following in the art community.
Part of Kostas Seremetis' appeal is the fact that he has a unique aesthetic -- through the manipulation of found materials, he is able to create culturally relevant abstract expressionist art, connecting the oft-disconnected worlds of high-brow and middle-brow interests.
My favorite part of the Kostas Seremetis portfolio is his illustration of Andy Warhol, with the heading of "SILVER SURFER" topping his portrait. Connecting one of the 60s and 70s biggest icons with a popular comic book may seem ridiculous to some, but entirely apropos to others. Herein lies one of the strengths of Kostas Seremetis' art -- to force viewers to connect elements of the pop culture zeitgeist that they didn't realize had artistic connections.
Kostas Seremetis' first solo exhibition will premiere at the Fourth Wall Project in Boston, September 12th, 2011.
