Keira Knightley has become my new hero with her refusal of allowing the producers of her new movie, The Duchess, to digitally enhance her breasts in publicity photos for the film.
Whether she's doing it on purpose or not, the actress is sending a very positive message to the millions of teenage girls who look up to Hollywood stars. You should embrace and love your body. It does not have to be molded according to sexist views.
"Keira Knightly is essentially giving young women permission to stand up in their communities and their schools and their families and say, 'Look, this is the way I look and it is OK," said Courtney Martin, author of 'Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters'. "I think that's incredibly brave and could have a huge impact on young women."
Knightly went along with a similar request from the producers of "King Arthur" in 2004. They digitally enhanced her breasts from an A-cup into a C-cup on posters (see second picture in gallery).
While new starlets might not be able to take such a stand against the Hollywood PR machine, 23-year-old Knightley can surely afford to do so. The actress was recently named by Forbes as the highest earning British Hollywood star.
What I like about Knightly is that she is fully embracing her body. Take a look at the gallery below and you will see that she doesn't try to hide her small breasts, on the contrary, she wears them proudly. You go girl!
