Jynwaye Foo is a 22-year old artist based in Brooklyn and she first garnered public attention when she unveiled her intricate hand-painted Air Force 1 sneakers last year. Since then, she has painted iconic scenes of classic animes including 'My Neighbor Totoro,' 'Sailor Moon,' and 'Spirited Away.' It breached custom work and went to a space of art as she pays homage to pop culture as well, adorning side bags, hoodies, shirts, Game Boys, and even New York MetroCards.
She talks to Highsnobiety and unveils that her brand is centric to anime, which is ironic because she didn't grow up watching it. Foo also explains how it all began with the iconic pair of painted Air Force 1s -- "A friend of mine got an extra pair of Air Force 1s that weren’t in our size, so we decided I’d paint on them. I was customizing things like guitars and skateboards prior to Air Force 1s, none of which got as much attention."
