Various Brands & Sashiko Gals Join Forces on Dynamic Designs
The Sashiko Gals are a talented group of 15 women who are between the ages of 40 and 80. Araat Fujiwara, designer of the Japanese brand Kuon shares "The group was started by women who were affected by the [2011 Tōhoku] earthquake 13 years ago, with the goal of reconstruction."
The sneakers from brands including New Balance, Nike, and more have been remixed in intricate patterns to give it stunning and handstitched visuals in different textures. Fujiwara continues "I have a feeling that the traditional Japanese techniques look very cool to people around the world. I think that the unique Japanese sense of beauty and the delicacy of the handiwork, especially in sashiko attracts people."
