The Inception Chair designed by Vivian Chiu doubles as a wooden chair and as a mind-boggling optical illusion. From a variety of angles, it appears as if a dozen of chairs are lined up one after the other. While there is only one chair to sit on, the Inception Chair is in fact constructed using ten different chairs, each of which is smaller than the previous.
Vivian Chiu designed the Inception Chair using a standard chair design, in which she then placed more chairs of smaller sizes. Each individual chair has hand-cut grooves on the inside edge of its seat frame as well as notches in the seats' backs, making each chair slide easily into place when put together. As a result, the chair can be effortlessly taken apart and rebuilt. While the design of the chair is extremely simple, its illusionary effect is the entertaining component of this otherwise simple seat.
