Intellibins is a new app that is designed to improve recycling access in New York City by making it easier for residents to dispose of waste products. Currently New York's recycling rate is about half of the national average. The Intellibins app helps encourage greater rates of recycling by helping residents recycle items that sanitation trucks don't normally handle.
The Intellibins app is compatible with both Android or iOS devices. To use the app, simply choose your waste stream and the app will identify the nearest location where you can recycle your products. The app maps 1,535 different recycling points throughout the city for 21 different kinds of materials. These materials cover everything from plastic and glass to clothing and electronics.
The ultimate goal is to expand the app beyond New York and help improve recycling access nationwide.
