Cambodian residents will soon be able to access smart and reliable waste collection services with the launch of Smart Clean Siem Reap, a new pilot program. Originally debuting on the street behind Po Lanka Pagoda, this pilot will solve tensions and waste management issues that previously troubled the community. To access the new service, 11 families located on the street had a dedicated app installed on their phones.
“The Internet system uses a color-coded alert. If it shows green, it means the collection is on time. If it shows yellow, it means the collection is delayed and citizens can report a complaint,” said commune chief Khieu Sort.
In addition to the app, the initiative includes deploying fifteen rubbish bins, each with QR codes. These smart bins are part of a modernized approach to garbage collection, which is scheduled twice a week—Mondays and Thursdays. The QR codes on the bins facilitate efficient tracking and management of waste, allowing for more effective and organized garbage collection.
