Virtual influencers like Lil Miquela, supermodel Shudu and the CGI model imma are now appearing online and in print magazines alike, challenging the way talent is represented in campaigns. imma, the virtual Japanese avatar, has a fan following of more than 50,000 users on Instagram and recently landed a photoshoot with i-D Japan.
In the photoshoot, imma appears alongside two human models: Japanese-French model Mayben and America-Japanese model Aria Polkey. All three of the models are decked out with makeup looks by the Japanese makeup brand KATE Tokyo and a quick glance at the image would make it difficult to detect that one of the models is not a real person at all—however, imma is becoming well-known for her signature pink bob and may soon gain even wider recognition as a digital model.
