SHED Architecture & Design created the Guemes Island Bunkhouse located on Guemes Island as the namesake suggests. The design language is rustic but also delivers a modern theme meant to be a family heirloom for generations and also as a calming family vacation spot.
It is built only 10 feet from the historic cabin owned by the family. To stand out from the surrounding homes, the cabin is set back into the trees to provide a private experience. To access water, the designers had to decommission the dry well before installing a rainwater catchment with the help of a potable water system. The bunkhouse is placed in an elevated safe space to be safe from rising sea levels.
