The Lady Gaga 'Applause' Video is Full of Pop Culture Homages
Laura McQuarrie — August 20, 2013 — Pop Culture
The official Lady Gaga 'Applause' video went live today on VEVO after the pop star's visit to Good Morning America. Although the fashionable songstress has toned town her adventurous aesthetic for her latest album, the video still has plenty of that perplexing Gaga style.
'Applause' pays tribute to several recognizable pop culture characters, like Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride,' the Mad Hatter from 'Alice in Wonderland' and Botticelli's Venus. As well, Gaga can be seen paying tribute to musical icons like Cher, David Bowie and Madonna.
One of the oddest parts of the video involves Gaga's head superimposed onto the body of a black swan. Outside of her musical career, Gaga has devoted her life to art and performance and this continues in her latest album, 'ARTPOP.'
