Venice Beach is one of those rare places known for its encouragement of outdoor workouts, which is only natural considering the all-year round hot weather and now Flexible by Darren Goins hopes to bring the same line of thinking to another city. Instead of targeting buff bodybuilders, however, it is made with children in mind.
A joint project with the Boys and Girls Club of Astoria, Queens, the Boys and Girls Club of Sunnyside, Queens, and the Department of Transportation New York City Urban Art program, as part of the pARTners program track, Flexible by Darren Goins could be regarded as a playground, but it is in actuality an interactive public art sculptural workout area. Encouraging exploration in a physical way, it is set to be installed during the first week of July 2013.
