This Flat Roof is Designed to Protect the Entire Hose from the Summer Sun
Ady Floyd — July 31, 2015 — Art & Design
The flat roof of this dwelling was created by FGMF Arquitetos to mimic the protective benefits of an umbrella. This house called the Botucatu House features an umbrella-like roof that protects the entire unit from harmful sun during the warm summer months in Brazil.
Unlike a curved umbrella, this house's roof has a completely flat surface. The house looks as though a cement canopy has been set up to cover its entirely. The cement umbrella canopy is elevated with elegant pillars that stand erect in single units, pairs and sets of three or four.
The massive flat roof extends beyond the main living areas and covers various exterior portions of the home. Some of the outdoor pool area and vast garden spaces are also concealed by the roof.
