Elena Rahman — February 15, 2022 — Art & Design
Robert De Niro's film studio is coming to fruition thanks to architecture studio BIG, which won approval for a 44-meter-high building construction in Queens, New York City. The building would mark the first vertical film studio in the world, boasting 760,000 square feet.
Wildflower Development Group, a New York-based firm, will build the studio throughout the following year, with a completion date set for 2023. The building will feature multiple floors and become the "first purpose-built production soundstage" in the city. According to the architects on the project, the studio "marks a new chapter in the city's ability to create the stories of our future." Overall, there will be 11 studio modules containing a large stage, vertical transportation, and production support.
