The Festina Lente Bridge is the physical result of a competition held five years ago. Design students Adnan Alagić, Bojan Kanlić and Amila Hrustić won the competition to design the bridge while studying at the Academy of Fine Arts. Now it spans 38 metres over the Miljacka river in Sarajevo, Bosnia, just outside of the institution.
A rather minimalist design except for the playful loop in its center, the Festina Lente Bridge was inspired by the fact that the Academy was formerly a church. The designers state, "The basic idea of the bridge is the union of the secular and spiritual," adding, "The loop on the bridge is a symbolic gate." The loop also provides a shelter with two seats.
