The Gaia hotel and Spa, Napa Valley's first fully environmentally sustainable hotel is the poster child of everything eco-friendly. Aside from being built from responsibly harvested wood and being equipped with numerous eco-friendly bells and whistles, the hotel is leading the trend and offering Al Gore's book 'An Inconvenient Truth' alongside of the Gideon Bible.
The 133 room hotel was developed from the ground, with the green initiatives inflating the building costs by over 200%. The hotel encompasses a health spa, fitness center and heated outdoor salted pool, beauty services, business center and an onsite restaurant that is scheduled to open in fall 2007.
Some of the facility features include the use of recycled facial tissue and toilet paper, as well as recycling bins in each room. There are waterless urinals and environmentally friendly cleaning products. The hotel also offers educational touch screen applications that allow guests to calculate how much water and electricity they are saving and how much CO2 is being emitted
