Studio OFIS redesigned the Hotel Bohinj located in Slovenia in the heart of the country's Triglav National Park. Tucked beneath the Julian Alps, the design team partnered with young investor Damian Merlak to make the sustainable makeover a reality.
Formerly known as the Hotel Kimpas, the new space now contains 69 rooms of varying sizes with panoramic views and a balcony. Alfresco bathing is also an option in some suits due to a semi-outdoors bathroom. Inspired by the region's unique hayracks, the long common corridors boast elaborate wooden features. OFIS transformed the basic volume of the structure by enveloping it in a wood and metal frame. In addition, larch wood cladding covers parts of the exterior, giving the hotel a natural appearance.
