E/B Office's 'Mood Map' Shows How People on Twitter are Feeling
Laura McQuarrie — June 11, 2013 — Art & Design
The 'Mood Map' exhibit at the Seoul E/B Office shows a reflection of the disposition of Korean people, as sourced from Twitter. The hanging ceiling installation is draped with loops of fiber-optic lights that are lit to represent the different "moods" people are experiencing in real-time.
A software was designed specifically for this architectural installation to pull words and phrases that describe six emotions from users' Tweets, capturing feelings like joy, anger and fear. Colored fiber-optic lights are designated for each type of emotion. The 'Mood Map' shows variances in emotion, sometimes having yellows, blues and pinks visible at the same time.
This sculpture is an incredible way to capture and visualize the changing emotions of an entire population throughout the days, weeks and months.
