Apps like eatOKRA are showing their solidarity in the United States by directing consumers to Black-owned restaurants in their area.
According to eatOKRA's website, the original idea behind this service was to give back to the community in some way, further explaining “We chose food because food is customary. Nothing embodies this idea of community more than the act of feeding someone or coming together to eat or be fed.” Currently, the platform lists 2,500 restaurants in the United States, helping users find Black-owned establishments in their neighbourhoods.
The app is currently available to download for free, and serves as one of the many resources that consumers can turn to to support Black-owned businesses.
