Facebook has seen some initial success regarding its ‘Deepfake Detection Challenge,’ which the social media platform launched last year in order to better be able to identify content that has been altered. The Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer made a statement regarding the rationale behind the ‘Deep Fake Detection Challenge,’ “I’ve downloaded deepfake generators that you just double click and they run on a Windows box — there’s nothing like that for detection.”
Facebook has selected winners of the challenge and will release their work in an open-source initiative. However, Facebook is creating its own detection technology, which will not be released to the public.
Its clear that Facebook is taking an active issue in addressing deepfake technology, in order to ensure content on the platform is authentic.
