Facebook is updating its media policy, and the platform will now label content that was created by a government-owned news organization. The label will allow users on the platform to better identify the source of the information they are receiving. Labeling government-owned news organizations are part of the platform's efforts to increase election integrity.
The new labels will begin to appear on Facebook in the coming weeks. The labels will be obvious to users and it will state that “This publisher is wholly or partially under the editorial control of a state. This is determined by a range of factors, including but not limited to funding, structure and journalistic standards.”
Overall including labels will help users determine the source of information and reduce the spread of misinformation on the platform.
