Australia recently launched the COVIDSafe app, in order to monitor the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The COVIDSafe app was created with inspiration from the TraeTogother app, which was developed in Singapore. The app combines Bluetooth and contact data, in order to determine if a person has been in close proximity to a positive case. Contact data relates to names and phone numbers, and it is potentially sensitive data. However, the Australian government indicated the data will be deleted when the pandemic is over.
Additionally, the Australian government stated that the COVIDSafe app will not store location data, and the data will only be shared with healthcare professionals if a contact incident occurred.
