The government of France has launched the StopCovid app, which is a contact tracing solution. The StopCovid app will be able to notify people who may have come in contact with a positive case of the COVID-19 virus. Participation in the app is entirely voluntary, however the effectiveness of the app increases as more people use it. People in France can download the app from either the App Store or from the Google Play Store.
The StopCovid app is powered by ROBERT, and it functions through distributing IDs to people to protect privacy. This ID then interacts with others in the area through Bluetooth. The ROBERT system was created by the Pan-European Privacy-Preserving Proximity Tracing project.
