There are plenty of cocktail competitions held at various in-person events throughout the year and around the globe, but Sombra Mezcal is hoping to set itself apart by hosting its first-ever sustainable cocktail competition. The entire competition is being carried out virtually for the sake of minimizing its carbon footprint and at the same time, participating bartenders have the chance to educate consumers about how they can do their part for the environment.
Cocktail recipes may have up to five ingredients, including two that are eco-friendly. The submissions will be judged by Trash Tiki’s anti-waste pioneers Kelsey Ramage and Iain Griffiths, who will be taking sustainability, originality, creativity, overall flavor and the incorporation of Sombra Mezcal into account.
Master sommelier Richard Betts was inspired by his love of Oaxaca to open a new distillery that sets a precedent for eco-friendly spirit production.
