The architects at J. Mayer H have not designed your average Berlin shopping mall; instead, the German studio have conceived a shopping center in which patrons are able to indulge in activities like recreational skydiving or surfing.
Understandably, the Volt Berlin concept store is targeted to those with a more adventurous spirit. Basically, if your favorite mall past time is people-watching and eating fro-yo, then perhaps you'll want to sit this one out. Beyond the adrenaline-junkie activities, the store will accommodate a department store, restaurants and a hotel.
The design features a modular concept, with the different activities located in different compartments. A slice of horizontal glazing moves through the center to contain the more extreme offerings. The architects explain, "This intermediate space, located at the level of the train viaduct, will host the centre's most important attractions: indoor-skydiving and a surf wave."
