Healtherwick Studio Redesigns the Hanwha Gallerie Shopping Center
Amy Duong — August 7, 2024 — Art & Design
UK-based architecture firm Heatherwick Studio shows off plans to redesign the Hanwha Galleria Shopping Center. This is located in Seoul and is defined by its rippled glass detail which would be formed by two similar volumes of curved glass. The main goal of this would be to redefine the retail spaces and their connection to the local area. It is developed with the collaborative efforts of local studio Haeahn Architecture and other local authorities.
Partner of the studio, Neil Hubbard speaks on the project, stating "Traditionally, department stores are quite inward facing, they feel closed off to the surrounding streets. Combined with Hanwha's ambition to bring more activity to the buildings, we wanted to provide a strong overall silhouette that creates a gateway, but also gives Seoulites new garden-like spaces to meet, shop and enjoy their city."
