Barry Callebaut Introduces Two Clean Additions to the Bensdorp Clean Label

Barry Callebaut has announced that the Bensdorp range will receive two new additions: the ‘Bensdorp Clean Brown’ and the ‘Bensdorp Clean Red.’ The brand describes the new offerings as “traditional cocoa color and flavor, now with a cleaner label.” Baking soda is used to process Bensdorp Clean’s new cocoa powders rather than conventional alkalizing agents. As Barry Callebaut points out, this enables businesses to designate Bensdorp Clean cocoa powders as "cocoa processed with baking soda" rather than "cocoa processed with alkali" on ingredient labels.
Barry Callebaut has also gathered statistics that prove that consumers react positively to cocoa processed with baking powder instead of alkali, sharing that 60% of shoppers prefer to purchase products with baking soda.
‘Bensdorp Clean Brown,’ which is characterized as having "subtle roasted and bitter notes for a mild cocoa flavor," arrives alongside the ‘Bensdorp Clean Red,’ which is described as having "strong flavor with subtle bitter and more powerful roasted notes.”
