PES Architects Develop a Striking Art and Culture Center
Kalin Ned — January 8, 2019 — Art & Design
The process of building the art and culture center in Fuzhou, China is quite interesting. Embracing innovation and customization from the industry, PES Architects — a studio based in Helsinki and Shanghai, create a curious design with futuristic properties.
The massive and curved silhouette of the building definitely makes an impression. PES Architects dived deep into the traditions of the region to produce an aesthetic for the Strait Culture and Art Center that proves to be relevant. For the exterior facade, the firm utilized custom seam tiles and louvers. The institution boasts five separate volumes that elegantly inform each other and install the image of the “overlapping petals of a jasmine flower — the symbol of Fuzhou.”
With an opera house, a concert hall, a theatre, an art exhibition hall, and a cinema, the Strait Culture and Art Center will most definitely give visitors access to rich heritage and breathtaking performances.
